Omnissa and HP introduce drop ship provisioning online

Drop ship provisioning (online) with HP is designed to deliver Windows PCs that HP provisions before they ship, so they're ready to work on arrival.
Empowering your workforce starts with a great employee experience, and that experience starts with the endpoint. When a new PC arrives prepared and ready to go, employees can skip most downtime, avoid friction, and get to the work that matters from day one.
At Omnissa, we're also rethinking what an endpoint is and what it can do. As AI agents become more common, endpoints are evolving beyond tools for employees into platforms for delivering and securing the agents that can supercharge productivity. That shift raises the stakes. IT needs every endpoint enrolled, trusted, and managed the moment it reaches an employee, and it needs to make that happen quickly and reliably.
For Windows PCs, the first mile of the onboarding journey can be slow and labor-intensive, with many potential failure points. Omnissa has been investing in more options for customers here, and today we're announcing drop ship provisioning (online) with HP, expected this winter.
The new Omnissa Workspace ONE® drop ship provisioning (online) capability works with the HP Provisioning Connect service to give customers a faster way to enroll PCs in Workspace ONE UEM and get them into employees' hands.
HP provisions PCs to your specifications in the factory, before they ship to your office or directly to end users. Employees receive an endpoint that is already prepared for your environment, and your IT team spends far less time on unboxing, enrolling, and provisioning.
What it means for your organization
- Simpler logistics. PCs ship directly from the factory to the end user, already enrolled and configured.
- A better first-day experience. Employees can start working right away with minimal setup.
- Less IT overhead. Reduce or eliminate manual imaging, on-site configuration, dedicated staging space, and staff hours.
How drop ship provisioning (online) works
What if a new PC could skip the IT bench entirely? Drop ship provisioning reduces the high-touch IT work of getting endpoints ready for employees. Provisioning happens before the endpoint reaches the user, simplifying logistics, and adding flexibility to the endpoint lifecycle. Endpoints arrive pre-provisioned with the OS, applications, drivers, and other resources ready to work with fewer manual steps and no need for on-site enrollment. The employee opens the box and gets to work quickly, with less waiting on software downloads and, in most cases, no IT visit.
Omnissa has supported drop ship provisioning for years, primarily through the Workspace ONE provisioning tool for customers’ in-house use or through distribution partners as part of the Workspace ONE Drop Ship provisioning program. The latest offering brings in HP to handle provisioning before the endpoint leaves the factory, so customers can offload imaging and enrollment setup work.
The online model of drop ship provisioning keeps you in control and lets you change course quickly. IT defines the desired configuration as part of the onboarding workflow in Workspace ONE UEM, powered by Omnissa Freestyle Orchestrator, then assigns a tag to each PC order. The tag identifies the desired provisioning profile, so HP and Workspace ONE UEM can automatically apply the right configuration during deployment. When your needs change, update the profile over the air, and your next shipment reflects it.
Consistent provisioning, wherever employees
HP’s global reach sets this collaboration apart. Delivering a consistent experience across countries and distributed teams has long been one of the toughest parts of any global deployment. HP's worldwide supply chain helps address that challenge. Whether a PC ships to a headquarters in Amsterdam or to a remote employee thousands of miles away, it is designed to arrive provisioned the same way and ready for work. IT gets one scalable provisioning standard across the entire organization, and employees get a consistent day-one experience, wherever they work.
Support across the full device lifecycle
The value doesn't end at first deployment. The service is also designed to support reprovisioning, helping you manage PCs across the full lifecycle. Take a laptop that HP builds, provisions, and ships straight to an employee for Workspace ONE UEM enrollment. A year later, that same PC moves to a new team member.
You can load a clean image and prep the device for its next owner, with minimal manual rework. That keeps each device productive through every handoff and gives the next employee a consistent start.

FAQs
What’s drop ship provisioning?
Drop ship provisioning moves endpoint setup ahead of delivery, so an endpoint arrives ready for the employee instead of needing IT to stage it first. IT defines the configuration endpoints should receive, and the provisioning process automates work that IT typically does by hand: imaging, installing applications and drivers, and applying configurations.
The PC then ships directly to the user, who powers it on and starts working with no IT visit. Omnissa supports drop ship provisioning through the Workspace ONE provisioning tool for in-house use and through distribution partners in the Workspace ONE Drop Ship provisioning program. With the latest offering, HP performs provisioning in the factory, so customers can offload imaging and enrollment setup.
What is the difference between online and offline models of drop ship provisioning?
The difference comes down to where the configuration lives. With the offline model, IT provides configuration data in advance as a provisioning package (PPKG), which defines the setup for every endpoint in the deployment. With the online model, Workspace ONE UEM tags and cloud-based provisioning workflows drive the mapping between each endpoint and its profile: IT defines configurations in the Workspace ONE UEM console and assigns a tag to each PC order. Instead of relying on a static package, your provisioning stays connected to the console you already use, ready to adapt as your needs change.
What model of drop ship provisioning is supported by HP?
The HP Provisioning Connect service from HP uses the online model of drop ship provisioning for Windows endpoints.
What are Workspace ONE onboarding workflows?
Onboarding workflows in Workspace ONE UEM, powered by Omnissa Freestyle Orchestrator, let IT sequence the first onboarding steps to run immediately after a Windows endpoint enrolls. While the endpoint is in an onboarding state, admins choose which workflows run first, such as Offline Domain Join, certificate installs, and precisely timed reboots. Apps, profiles, scripts, and other direct resource assignments wait until every prerequisite is complete, so the tasks that follow run correctly. Each step can halt on failure or continue with exceptions, giving IT full control over how newly enrolled endpoints come online.
