Mattheeuws automated its rugged device management with Omnissa Workspace ONE® UEM, cutting driver onboarding from two days to less than two hours, saving €15,000 annually. Centralized device provisioning, automated offboarding, and enhanced security measures reduced IT’s administrative burden, improved compliance, and ensured secure data handling—while giving IT full visibility and control over devices across Europe.
Driving innovation in fleet and logistics operations
Mattheeuws’ evolution from traditional transport company to dynamic logistics partner has been driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a determination to deliver reliable, future-ready transport services through innovation. As the organization expanded, its leadership recognized the importance of modernizing and professionalizing fleet operations to ensure faster, smarter, and more reliable services for customers across Europe.
Manual device management slows the business
With dozens of drivers operating across Europe for the company’s many subsidiaries, Mattheeuws had an increasingly complex network of mobile devices to manage at scale. As well as access to critical business apps, including the proprietary ROMAC Fuels app, each device required specific security configurations. They also had to be sufficiently robust to withstand demanding conditions on the road.
Ruggedized Samsung smartphones and tablets designed to endure drops, dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures were the answer to the durability problem. But although they were ideal for life on the road, these devices introduced added complexity for Mattheeuws’ IT team.
Specifically, the configuration and security set-up for each ruggedized device had to be handled manually every time a new driver joined the organization. Subsequent software updates could not be managed centrally. When a driver left the company, securely removing corporate data from the devices was a cumbersome process. These inefficiencies created delays, increased administrative burden, and introduced unnecessary security risks.
Automating device management at scale
To address these challenges, Mattheeuws partnered with ITQ for strategic guidance and implementation support. Together, ITQ and Mattheeuws chose Workspace ONE UEM to centralize and streamline mobile device management, with a focus on automation, security, and long-term scalability. ITQ recommended Workspace ONE UEM for its support for ruggedized Android devices, its ability to seamlessly integrate with internal apps, and its scalable, cost-efficient architecture.
“Mattheeuws isn’t afraid to rethink how things should work,” says Jan Ebrard, business developer at ITQ. “Together, we implemented Workspace ONE UEM to automate onboarding and securely manage every rugged device in the field. By combining their clear vision with our specialized expertise, the result is an efficient, scalable solution built for the realities of transport.”
Reduced overhead, improved security, full IT control
The results of deploying Workspace ONE were immediate and measurable. Devices are now automatically provisioned and preconfigured, significantly reducing manual effort. Through API integration between the HR system and Workspace ONE, new drivers are staged automatically as soon as they are entered into the Mattheeuws HR app. As a result, Mattheeuws has reduced onboarding time for new drivers from two days to less than two hours, resulting in an estimated annual saving of €15,000 in labor costs.
Mattheeuws has also automated staging, provisioning, and offboarding processes. Semi-automated device lifecycle management, including factory reset at offboarding, ensures devices can be securely reassigned with minimal IT intervention. This reduces administrative overhead while improving consistency and compliance.
The company has strengthened security with kiosk mode, app wrapping, remote wipe capabilities, and granular device control. Kiosk mode locks devices into approved business apps only, preventing misuse. App wrapping adds an extra layer of protection around apps, controlling how corporate data is accessed and shared. For example, the proprietary ROMAC Fuels app is provisioned via a secure website wrapper, giving drivers controlled access while keeping company data protected.
These controls also protect the business when circumstances change. If a device is lost or a driver leaves the company, corporate data can be removed instantly and securely.
Workspace ONE gives the IT team full visibility and control over devices in the field, while reducing the overall support burden. By modernizing its mobile device management strategy, Mattheeuws has built a scalable digital foundation that supports continued growth while enhancing operational efficiency and security across its fleet.
